Staff Report, on June 16, 2009
Hermelinda “Chita” Lopez

Hermelinda “Chita” Lopez of Kyle, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was called by our Savior to her eternal rest at the age of 74 on June 16, 2009.

She was born on April 7, 1935, in Redwood, Texas, to Juan and Leocadia Arredondo. Hermelinda grew up in San Marcos, graduated from Nixon-Clay ¬¬¬Business College, and married Alfonso Lopez on August 26, 1956. They raised their three children in San Marcos and later moved to Kyle where they have lived for the past 21 years. Hermelinda worked as a bookkeeper at Gary Job Corp for 30 years.

Family and friends will remember Chita for her wit, assertive personality, love of life, and abundant generosity. She was very proud of and committed to her family, their long-time traditions, and their strong family ties that kept everyone connected. She was a devoted Catholic and even when dealing with health challenges, never lost her unforgettable sense of humor. Entertaining her Bunco group or having her neighbors over for coffee brought her much joy. She will be dearly missed by all.

Hermelinda is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Alfonso Lopez; son, Mario Lopez and wife Caroline of Dallas; daughter, Patricia Holmes and husband Jimmy of Austin; son, Michael Lopez and wife Shari of Katy; Susie L. McKenzie of Dallas; granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Holmes, Mikaela Antonia Lopez, and Lillie Isabelle Lopez; numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank J. Arredondo, Gilbert J. Arredondo, and Johnny J. Arredondo; and sisters, Isabel Arredondo Diaz and Agripina Arredondo Saucedo.

Serving as pallbearer are John A. Diaz, Gilbert Arredondo, Jr., Ricky Arredondo, Clem Saucedo, Jr., Artie Arredondo, and Danny Arredondo.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Harrell Funeral Home, located at FM 2770 & Kohlers Crossing in Kyle. Recitation of Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, 801 N Burleson Street, Kyle. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19 at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, officiated by Reverend Howard Goertz. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Texas.
