During church service in St. John Lutheran Church, members welcomed Gloria Maier to St. John’s membership. Gloria and her husband, Ollie live in San Marcos and are very involved in the Uhland community. They are publishing the Uhland Star and also have the Sun County Orchard on N. Camino Real. Welcome Gloria.

The members of the Women’s Guild of St. John met Sat. March 6, in the home of Vicki Schawe. Some 12 members and Pastor Jakubik enjoyed the carry-in lunch, followed by the meeting. Various items of business were discussed, including contributions of help for the Men’s Fellowship Barbeque to be held in May.

It is with sorrow to report the passing of Florence Schiwitz Clark on March 3. Florence was raised in the Uhland community and attended the Uhland School. Steve and Florence were married in St. John Church and two of the Clark’s daughters were baptized in St. John (then U.C.C.). Memorial services for Florence were held Sun. March 7, in the First Lutheran Church in San Marcos. She was the daughter of the late August and Hattie Schiwitz. Her husband of 56 years, Steve, five children, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one expected, along with two sisters and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends survive her. Sympathy is extended to the family.

Betty Jo Kleen observed her 90th birthday on March 3, with a party at Deer Creek Nursing Home with family, friends, residents and attendants. All enjoyed the birthday cake and visiting.

•••

Prayers and best wishes are sent to Shirley Schnautz, who is on the not so well list.

Marshall and Diana Fuchs of Houston were in Uhland for the weekend. On Sat., they, along with Gladys Sorrells, took “Mom” Caroline Fuchs out for lunch at the Salt Grass in San Marcos, then to the Dairy Queen for a sundae. All enjoyed visiting and good food.
