A 13-year-old student was stabbed with a pen or pencil in an apparent gang-related assault Jan. 10 at Owen Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos, city officials say.
San Marcos police detained two juveniles, ages 13 and 15, and transported them to the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center for delinquent behavior. Investigators are still determining whether a third juvenile was involved, officials say.
At about 8:15 a.m., the 13-year-old boy was followed into a school restroom by three youths who began to punch him when one of the youths allegedly jabbed him in the side with a pen or pencil, officials say.
According to news reports, San Marcos Police Sgt. Marty Manzi said the incident was gang-related, saying that gang slogans were used during the attack. City officials and the police department have since refrained from confirming whether the case involved gang members.
