Henry Raymond Cox, Sr. was born on November 7, 1934 and went to heaven on March 27, 2012.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Janell, they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on July 10.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Debbie and Michael Thames, Kelly and Ricky Adams, Henry Raymond Cox Jr. and Donna Cox and Galen and Rebecca Cox. All are gifted with the many stories of his great sense of humor, his go-git-em attitude and the love he shared with his sons for Nascar, football, cars, tractors, boats and cool guy things!
Pawpaw is survived by 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Heather Myers, Chad Moore, Amber Krimmel, Rikki and Kenneth Lookingbill, Bradley Cox, Jason and Mindy Cox, Jordyn and Scott Taylor, Madison Raymond, Ashley Adams, Kendall Cox, Shea Cox, Steve Lara, and Austin Broussard and his great grandchildren Kyleigh Krimmel, Mallory and Brooklyn Myers and Jason, Tommy and Conner Lookingbill. Raymond is survived by his brother Joe Cox, sister-in-law Barbara Cox, brother-in-law Barney Lewis and a slew of wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
Raymond was a proud member of the “Operating Engineers Local 450” for 50 years.
The family would like to thank Lessie Thomison, Janell’s sister, who was a constant support to the family.
If you had seen Raymond in these last days, you would have known that he was preparing to take that special journey – quiet, restful and visiting with some who had gone before him. Janell could tell you about a moment when he spoke of flying, wishing she could have been there to see it. If you had seen him a few weeks ago, you would have seen him checking out his lawnmower, somehow managing to have his kids and grandkids doing his bidding, only to pick the precise moment to jump into the seat of the lawnmower, yanking off his oxygen and taking off to mow his grass. Janell was standing on the porch smiling and taking pictures. He later admitted with a smile and chuckle that it was his plan all along, saying, “I think I’ll have one of these parties every month.”
We have so many memories: fried potato sandwiches, going to the drive-in to see Clint Eastwood with Mom and Dad in the front and kids in the back. Or, Raymond coming home after work and saying “start packing we’re going camping.” We’d pack and head off to some exotic state park with extra kids – cousins, friends or foster kids – in tow. Life was never dull. It was filled with surprises and excitement. When some or all of the five Cox brothers and two sisters and spouses got together, it was an audio wonder to behold, with stories, jokes and infectious laughter.
We smile, laugh, cry as we remember. We remember the many wonderful memories
Mama, as you go through your sad times please hold next to your heart – You and Daddy gave us many wonderful memories that we continue to share. You gave us unconditional love. Our family loves each other tremendously. We pray for, love, trust, forgive, protect and know that we are always there for each other. It is the legacy that you and Dad built.
Funeral services were held March 30 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle with burial following at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca.
