STAFF REPORT

Chapa Middle School students competed in the Junior Visual Arts Scholastic Event art competition for the Texas Art Education Association held at Martin Middle School in Austin on Saturday, May 5. Twelve students earned a Superior rating, the highest score in the contest, which included a 10-minute interview with a juror and a critique of the student’s artwork and a gold medal for their winning art projects.

Two students, Asahel Oranday and Ashlyn Fonseca, were awarded the Silver Seal Medallion at the conclusion of the competition; only 10 percent of students with a Superior rating are selected by a jury panel and receive the silver award. Their work will be photographed for future display at the state level.
