STAFF REPORT
Laura B. Wallace Middle School has quite a history in the Kyle community. The school opened its doors in 1972 as Hays Junior High and in 1974 was renamed Hays Middle School. The school’s namesake, and that of its mascot, the Rangers, is John Coffee “Jack” Hays, a Captain in the Texas Rangers. Hays High School and Hays CISD are also named for Jack C. Hays.
In 1987, Wallace was renamed Kyle Middle School and in 1993, it became Kyle Intermediate School. Finally, in 1999 the school was named Laura B. Wallace Middle School, and it remains so today.
Five name changes and 40 years later, one thing remains consistent – the Mighty Rangers are very proud of their heritage. Happy Birthday, Wallace!
