Carpenter Hill kids go global

By Sandra Grizzle

Two Destination Imagination teams from Carpenter Hill Elementary placed top four in the State of Texas to qualify for the Global Finals competition to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee from May 21-24.   The two DI teams going to Global Finals are the Sassy 7 (competing in the Improvisational division) and the 7th DImension (competing in the Fine Arts division).  These teams will compete against finalists from other states as well as 15 countries, a truly international competition! To help these teams’ fundraising efforts, you can contact Carpenter Hill Elementary or go to gofundme.org and search for Carpenter Hill. See Kim Hilsenbeck’s story this week about DI in the Education section.

Around fifty ladies enjoyed the “tea party” held last Saturday afternoon at Onion Creek Senior Center. Delicious refreshments were served along with a variety of teas. Most of the ladies were wearing hats for the occasion and Evelyn Malatek, sporting a red hat with roses, received the most votes for prettiest.

Buda Fire Chief Clay Huckaby and wife, Angie, will celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary on May 12…congratulations!

Birthday wishes go out to Laurie Cromwell on May 7; Mary Capps on May 8; Betty Clere and Tracy Evans Cox on May 9; Lee Howell on May 10; Detta Haffelder on May 13.

The monthly 3rd Thursday Dance is scheduled for May 15 at the Onion Creek Senior Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Rob Carter will provide music and the dance is open to the public.  Food is available at the center from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.

If you did not vote early in the Hays CISD election, voting will be held Saturday, May 10, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Don’t forget “mom” on her special day Sunday, May 11.
