Following the funds: Campaign finance reports for Hays CISD board candidates

Sandra Bryant, an at-large incumbent for Hays CISD, filed her most recent campaign finance report three days after the May 2 deadline. The report, which covered the period from April 1 – May 1, shows a campaign expenditure of $471.90. The document lists $29.40 as an advertising expense for postage. It also shows $30.81 remaining in her campaign account.

She received no contributions in excess of $50 during the same reporting period, according to the document.

In her campaign finance report covering Jan. 1 – March 31, filed on April 10, Bryant reported total contributions of $1,975 and total expenditures of $2,312.78. Bryant received political contributions of $1,700 from William and Kate Johnson of Kyle on Jan. 14 and $200 from Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson on Feb. 11.

In that same reporting period, the report listed advertising expenses of $1,743.60 at Super Cheap Signs in Austin and $110.92 at Bargain Basement Printing in New Hampshire for postcards.

Her report for the period from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2013, when she was an officer holder not a candidate, shows total contributions of $1,600 and total expenditures of $903.12. That report was filed on Jan. 15.

Bryant took in $100 from Lila Knight of Kyle on Sept. 7 and a second contribution of $300 from Knight on Oct. 31. She also received contributions from Thomas and Halley Ortiz of Manchaca on Oct. 31 in the amount of $75, $100 from Jim Powers of Dripping Springs on Sept. 18, $300 from Michael and Julie Watkins of San Marcos on Sept. 18. 

On Nov. 11, the report shows Bryant made a contribution the Hays Education Foundation in the amount of $125.

Bryant also expended $177.12 on Sept. 16 for advertising and food. The description listed campaign kick-off food and a website.

 

Will McManus

At-large candidate Will McManus filed his most recent campaign finance report on May 2.  

The report, which covers the period from April 1-May 1, shows a campaign expenditure of $600.09. The document lists $297.69 as an advertising expense for signs purchased at A&E Signs in Buda. The report also shows an expense of $302.40 for advertising with Barton Publications in Kyle (the publishing company of the Hays Free Press). It shows $603.17 remaining in his campaign account.

McManus received no contributions in excess of $50 during the same reporting period, according to the document.

In his campaign finance report covering Jan 1 – March 31, filed on April 14, four days after the filing deadline, McManus reported total contributions of $1,900 and total expenditures of $1,640.95. The report said McManus has $1,259.05 remaining in his campaign account. However, he did not report a $1,000 contribution of his own monies to his account. He told the Hays Free Press he would be filing an amended report on May 7.

He received political contributions of $500 from Royce Faulkner of Austin, $400 from Mark Pustka of Austin, $500 from Wiley McManus of Manchaca, $250 from Stacy Britton of Buda and $250 from Patti Wood of Kyle.

In that same reporting period, the report listed advertising expenses of $1,136.63 at A&E Signs in Buda for signs on March 31 and an additional $433 to A&E Signs on April 7.

McManus filed for office Feb. 24.

 

Willie Tenorio

Willie Tenorio, the incumbent in District 2, filed his most recent campaign finance report on May 2.  

The report, which covered the period from April 1 – May 1, shows a campaign expenditure of $10.61. The document lists $29.40 as an advertising expense for postage. It also shows $30.81 remaining in his campaign account.

He received no contributions in excess of $50 during the same reporting period, according to the document.

In his campaign finance report covering Jan 1 – March 31, filed on April 10, Tenorio reported total contributions of $80 and total expenditures of $1,045.33. He received political contributions of $80 from Robert and Karolyn Tenorio of San Marcos.

In that same reporting period, the report listed advertising expenses of $80 at Fed Ex Office for flyers, $20 for flyers from Fed Ex Office on March 21, $225.05 at Super Cheap Signs in Austin on March 21 and $689.67, also at Super Cheap Signs, on March 4.

From July 1 through Dec. 21, 2013, Tenorios’s campaign finance report for that period — as an office holder, not a candidate — filed on Jan. 14, shows total contributions of $0 and total expenditures of $63.66. The report did not include any pages showing the nature of the $63.66 expenditure.

 

Jesse Espinoza 

In his campaign finance report filed April 10, Jesse Espinoza, candidate for District 1, reported no contributions and no expenditures.

 

No campaign finance reports were available for candidates Teri Tobias, District 1, Leti Vasquez, District 2, or Miguel Zuniga At-Large. Hays CISD spokesperson Tim Savoy said those three candidate filed amended reports in April claiming they would not receive or expend more than $500 during the reporting period.
