Mountain City Montage’s Pauline Tom is on vacation, so Amy Rae Hilton was kind enough to provide, after being coerced, an update of what’s happening in the community.
We are just a week away from our annual Fourth of July parade. Kyle Fire Department has agreed once more to lead the way as we celebrate Independence Day 2014. Meet us at Old City Hall just before 10 a.m., and we will follow the big red truck in our red-white-and-blue wagons, bikes, strollers, and more! We will have cookies and water for our neighbors and friends just before the great Lawn Mower Race. You must be a resident of Mountain City to participate in the Lawn Mower Races; we plan for strong competition as our little racers aim for the ultimate bragging rights and one-year ownership of the grand prize trophy designed and crafted by our own city councilman, Roland Garza. The first place winner will also be recipient of a gift card to one of our local hardware stores … so gas up those mini tractors and find your best festive gear … the race will be on!
A BIG thank you to all who helped with the annual dumpster days this past weekend! I can only imagine how clean our homes are after these very successful dumpster days and the record-breaking garage sale event that was held on the first Saturday of June.
Let’s make our yards just as beautiful! Due to recent storms and the damage they caused, our annual Tree Limb Day was moved up to July 27. You must have all tree limbs out on the curb (but not in the street) by 5:00 p.m. on July 27. Trees will be picked up the following weekend.
Also in city news:
The City of Mountain City currently has an inter-local agreement with Hays County. The proposal is to adopt the county ordinance and then amend it with revisions to include chickens and other specific topics. Please visit the Hays County website to see the ordinance (http://www.co.hays.tx.us/so-animal-control.aspx). Councilman Brian Wilson has graciously taken on the task of drafting the first amendment and will be working on that between now and our council meeting July 31. Please email him any recommendations that you may have. After proposition of the amendment, repealing of any conflicting ordinances and adoption of the county ordinances, we will have two public hearings before the final vote. Please come and voice your opinions.
Here’s to a great week, neighbors — make it something wonderful!
Loving Mountain City,
Amy Rae Hilton
P.S. Wishing Pauline and Ron Tom, the city love birds, a fabulous adventure!
