Staff Report on July 10, 2014
Buda Bits

By Sandra Grizzle

A new little Aggie, Brady Walker Clark, arrived on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Seton Medical Center-Hays. He weighted in at seven pounds, 13 ounces and measured 19.5 inches. First time parents, Tracy and Jeffrey Clark welcomed him to the world.

It has been 20 years since the “big fire” in downtown Buda. The fire alarm sounded around 10 p.m. on Sunday night, July 10, 1994, and the Buda Volunteer Fire Department responded immediately. The fire was so great that it quickly spread from the attic of a glass blowing business on the corner of Main and Ash Streets to three more shops in block four. More firefighters were called in from around the area to help battle the flames.  When the smoke had cleared, it was determined that the corner structure was a complete loss and the other three buildings were badly damaged.
Within a year, the three buildings were renovated and have since housed many different businesses. The corner lot was cleared and left vacant for a few years until local dentist, Dr. Don Taylor, purchased the property. He built a nice brick structure that opened in 2003 and is still occupied by Taylor and his staff at Buda Dental Professionals.
Today the other renovated buildings are home to Hope Sanford’s Cimarron Rose Antique Shop, Allstate Insurance Office and Nonna Gina’s Italian Restaurant.
We take pride in our downtown historical district and appreciate the fine businesses that make Buda what it is today.
