Expansion of Ranch Road 967 will start on Tuesday, Sept. 2 with the construction of continuous turn lanes, shoulders and sidewalks from FM 1626 to Cole Springs Road (just before the bridge at Onion Creek). The work will take approximately 12 months so we all must exercise patience during this time. The end results will be good for our drivers, bikers and walkers!

The festivals continue in downtown Buda…don’t miss the Buda Fire Department’s Fire Fest on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29 and 30. There will be great music, great food and great competition among hundreds of firemen.
The Capital Area Young Marines invite the public to a night of music, nostalgia and fun at the 1950s style Sock Hop on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda. Wear your favorite 1950s retro gear and enter the costume contest for a chance to win prizes, strut your stuff in the Karaoke Crooners competition, listen to great old tunes and be entertained by Magical Master of Ceremonies, R.M. The Buda Public Library will be closed Saturday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 1. Doors open on Tuesday morning, Sept. 2 with story times for toddlers at 10:30 a.m., home school (elementary ages) at 1:30 p.m. and family story time at 6 p.m. Preschool story time for 3 to 5-year-olds is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and Spanish preschool story time for 3-5 year olds on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Starting on Sept. 6, there will be a Saturday morning beginning Spanish class at 11 a.m. for teens and adults. Stop by the library for more information or to check out a good book.

Special birthday wishes go out to Helen Alcala who will be 91 years old Sunday, Aug. 31. Alcala still spends time working in Casa Alde, the Mexican restaurant she opened in 1980 on Main Street and is the oldest family owned restaurant in town. Do stop and wish her a “happy birthday.”
