Amos James Heitman was born October 29, 1921, and passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at the age of 92.
He worked as a welder in Galveston, and was a Staff Sergeant in World War II from 1942 – 1946. He served with 176th Coast Artillery Battalion in the Pacific theater.
Amos was a member of Austin First Church for 23 years. His dedication to his church and spreading the word of the Lord started in 1952 during a tent revival with A.A. Alan in Galveston, Texas. From that day forward his love for the Lord was always on the top of his list.
His hobbies were gardening, fishing, cooking (even making homemade bread) but his most favorite hobby was reading the word of the Lord. Every night after supper he would sit at the head of the dinner table and read his bible. It did not matter when or where he was, he would always make time for his favorite hobby.
His family was very important to him along with his beautiful Hazel, wife of 64 years.
Surviving family include his wife, Hazel Joy Heitman, daughter, Bonnie Nava, grandson, Robert Nava, Jr., granddaughters Daphne Nava, Nanette Nava, Natalie Jimenez, great-granddaughter Kylee Watson, and a large family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held Monday, September 8 at Austin First Church with interment following at Onion Creek Cemetery.
