Old school meets new school

Many grandparents went back to school this week in celebration of Grandparents Day. The older generation read library books, ate lunch and visited the classrooms of their grandchildren. It has been said that the nice thing about having grandchildren is that you get another chance at getting it right.

The next big event in downtown Buda will be the Fajita Fiesta on Sept. 26-27. This is one fiesta that you want to come hungry so that you can sample all the great food from the cook-offs and many food booths. There will also be a kid’s area and Mariachi bands from our Hays schools along with other bands. Everything gets underway on Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until closing at 10 p.m.

The KS Band will play for the third Thursday dance at the Onion Creek Senior Center on September 18. The kitchen will open from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. and the dance is 6 until 9 p.m. The public is invited.

Do not want to miss wishing J.P. and Judy Kirksey a belated “happy anniversary” on Sept. 5. The Manchaca couple has been married 50 years. Also anniversary wishes go out to John and JoAnn Keller as they celebrate 62 years of marriage on Sept. 12.

Birthday wishes go out to Betty Conley on Sept. 12; eight-year-old Eli Britton, Jean Heaps, on Sept. 13; Betty Colonna, Bobby Lane, Lanette Lowden and Lee Balboa on Sept. 14; Brooke Sheely, Candace Blake, John Macvich and Burl Purvis on Sept. 15; The Rodriquez twins, Quinton and Lauren, on Sept. 16.

The much needed signal light is up and working on RR967 at the entrance to the Hays “Y” – watch for it and drive with care.
