Carolyn Griner Campbell, a servant of the Lord, passed from this world to her home in heaven on Jan. 17 in Kyle. She was 84. Carolyn was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Savannah, GA. She lived most of her life in Florida, moving to Texas in 1995 to be closer to her grandchildren.
She loved the Lord and lived a life of service to her family, her community and her church. Carolyn had a heart for children and taught Sunday school and Bible school for years. She was also active in women’s ministry, organizing church volunteers to support the Redland Christian Migrant Association in South Florida, an organization founded to provide safe, nurturing childcare for children of migrant farm workers. She also personally cared for four elderly members of her family while raising her own children. She had a quiet strength and love that through her faith, enabled her to give sacrificially to her family and those in need. Carolyn was a member of Bannockburn Baptist Church in south Austin where she continued to grow in her faith. She loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice.
After graduating high school at Miami Edison, Carolyn attended Florida State University. She left after a year, returning to Miami and a job to help support her family. While at FSU she met her future husband, and began a lifelong relationship that would last 63 years. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband Edward John (Jack) Campbell of Austin; her daughter Linda Campbell and son-in-law David Mahn of Austin; her son Bruce Alan Campbell of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren Lauren Kissock of Austin, Christopher Kissock of New York City and Riley Campbell of Raleigh.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Orchard Park Memory Care in Kyle for their loving care. We will all miss her sweet spirit and her radiant smile. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the or Bannockburn Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
