Staff Report on February 11, 2015
Samantha Elizabeth Dean (1985-2015)

Samantha Elizabeth Dean was born on May 12, 1985.  At the time of her death on February 4, 2015, she was seven months pregnant with a child she named Madeline, affectionately known as Maddie.  Samantha and Madeline are survived by her parents, Kelvin Dwane and Kimberly Anne Dean, and a sister, Taylor Alexandra Dean.

Samantha began her 29-year life journey when she was born on May 12, 1985, in Nürnberg, Germany.  When she was six, Samantha traveled to the United States and lived at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma until 1993.

The family moved to Ft. Drum, New York, in 1995 then to San Antonio, Texas, in 1998.  In 2003, Samantha graduated from Judson High School. She participated on the varsity Judson High School tennis team where she made many friendships that endure today.

After graduation, she attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned degrees in Liberal Arts and Public Policy.  She was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and loved by all members in her charter.  Samantha worked tirelessly volunteering her time with Alpha Kappa Alpha to many organizations for the children in the region of Texas (SKEWEE!!)

In 2007, Samantha wanted to further enhance her skills in order to better serve our community.  She enrolled at John Jay University in New York and earned a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology.

It is noteworthy to mention that during her time at the university she battled sarcoma cancer in her elbow but continued going to class every day during radiation and chemotherapy treatment.  Despite the adversities, Samantha graduated on time.  She wanted to serve as a police officer; however, the sarcoma cancer left her with a disability forcing her to do the next best thing.

Samantha joined the Kyle Police Department as a civilian to pursue her dreams “to bring closure and comfort to victims of crime.”

We have lost a truly amazing woman who touched so many lives.  She will be missed more and more each day and will never be forgotten.

Samantha’s grandfather said when his mother died, “It feels as if all the stars have fallen from the sky.” This is indeed how we feel without Samantha. Her entire family, the Kyle Police Department, friends and relatives have lost a bright star.  We all love you, Samantha Elizabeth Dean.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Community Bible Church located at 2477 N. Loop 1604 East. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Sign the guestbook at www.porterloring.com.
