Familiar Hays faces show at Texas Relays

By Cyndy Slovak-Barton

Hays High’s three athletes competing at the Texas Relays put on a good show for the school.

Hays’ 1600 meter runner Esmi Fuentes took second place in heat six at the Relays, but it was not fast enough to place her on the medal stand for the event. Fuentes took 20th overall out of 36 runners, with a time of 5:11.11.

Winner in the girls 1600 M race was Devin Clark of Spring Branch Smithson Valley with a time of 4:47.49

Hays’ Meagan Gray took third place in Girls high school pole vault Section A with a  vault of 12-11. Her teammate, Rebekah Pogue had a tough day at the meet, no-heighting at the entry height of 11-1.

A vaulting mate of Pogue’s, both of whom work out at Lone Star Pole Vault in New Braunfels, took gold in the event. Westlake High’s Nicole Summersett had a jump off against Smithson Valley’s Colleen Clancy after both cleared 12-11. Summersett cleared 12-9 in the jump off to beat Clancy.
