Staff Report
The winner of the Friends of the Buda Library Short Story Writing Contest is Gary White of Mountain City with “Say a Prayer for Gussie.” White also came in first place in 2014. White will win $200 for his first place story.
Short stories had to be less than 4,000 words and could be on any topic. Judges scored each entry on a rubric. Factors included creativity, characterization, plot and grammar. Each entry was provided to the panel of judges blindly, meaning no names were included.
A total of 12 writers submitted short stories. The other winners in the contest are:
Second Place – “Call Red” by Ann Marie Miller
Third Place – “The Road Taken” by Mary Anne Howard, who also won third place in 2014.
Fourth Place – “A Futile Effort” by Michael Adam. Third and fourth were nearly a tie with just one point difference.
