Adelfa Gonzales Tenorio (1932-2015)

Adelfa Gonzales Tenorio, age 83, a long time resident of Kyle, passed away on July 18, 2015. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. 

Adelfa was born on February 3, 1932, in San Marcos, Texas. She was raised by her mother, Paula Gonzales Wanjura. She was blessed with four sisters. She graduated San Marcos High school in 1951 and shortly after began a job as a sales clerk at a popular variety store called Duke and Ayres. 

In November 1966, Adelfa married her beloved husband, Willie Tenorio, Sr., and together they made their home in Kyle, Texas. They were happily married for 46 years and they raised three sons, Willie, Mario and Robert.   

Adelfa had many passions including cooking, baking, sewing, and taking care of her plants. Some of her well-known dishes were hamburgers and onion rings every Saturday and Sunday dinners such as meatloaf, fried chicken and enchiladas. She made many tasty desserts including apple and pecan pies, birthday cakes for family, and buenelos every New Year’s Eve.  

A skilled seamstress, she made her own dresses, blouses and skirts, sewed specialty dresses for relatives, and made costumes for her sons’ activities and school functions. She also tended a variety of plants around her home.   

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Tenorio,Sr., her mother Paula G. Wanjura, and her three sisters; Ladislada Gonzales, Elvira Pecina and Eva Perez. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; Willie Tenorio, Jr. and Daphne of Kyle; Mario Tenorio and Heidi of Austin, and Roberto Isaac Tenorio and Karolyn of Kyle; grandchildren Will, Natalia, Josh, and Ben Tenorio; sister, Dora Wanjura of San Marcos, brother-in-law, Pedro Perez of Austin, and nephew, Evaristo Gonzales of Redwood. 

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Seton Medical Center- Hays for the outstanding care they provided our mother during her time at there.   

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Harrell Funeral Home, Kyle with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kyle. Burial will follow in San Vicente Cemetery, Kyle.
