Mt. City elections to be held in Kyle

Will Mountain City elections be in Mountain City? No, the City Council voted to have the Hays County Election Office host the elections both Early Voting and Election Day, Nov. 3. Election Day will be at Kyle City Hall. Early voting, starting Oct.19, will include the Precinct 2 offices, just past the schools on 2770.

The order on the ballot, as determined by a drawing:

Elva Brown

Lee Taylor

Suzanne Hallam

Ralph McClendon

Thomas Brown

Judge Beth Smith and her husband, Everett, invited these candidates to visit with all of us at the annual National Night Out gathering at their house, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6:30-8:00 p.m. 116 Cedar Drive. There will not be a formal debate.

Keep watch on Loving Mountain City’s Facebook page for details of Fire & Ice, Saturday, Oct. 10 on the grounds of the City Hall.  If you’re a homeowner, you should have a mailer with the details. Start perfecting your ice cream and salsa recipes and bring out your creations for community judging. No charge to enter the contest. However, Loving Mountain City needs to know you plan to participate. The instructions on Facebook say, “(Facebook) Message us and let us know if you are bringing salsa or ice cream.” Read the mailed letter for more options. $20 vendor and business booths are available. This is the only fundraiser for the organization.Once again, there will be games and crafts for kids as well as face painting. Island Texas will play. And, there will be hot dogs and hamburgers for purchase.

What’s the most unusual or unique animal you’ve seen at your bird bath? Recently, Jay and Betty Puckett watched a coyote drink from their backyard birdbath. She has a photo as proof. Betty and Jay recently cruised to Cozumel and Progresso with 12 family members.

Ron found a lovely yellow and purple moth on our heat pump. More than one who saw it on my iPhone said, “It looks like a fall leaf.” It’s a male Imperial Moth, Eacles imperialis. These moths can vary greatly in size and in patterns of coloration. But, the males are smaller and have larger purple patches. Too, the antenna of the male is fibrous. According to Wikipedia, “the female’s rear end is slightly bigger.” As a pupated adult, this moth cannot eat. Male and female focus all their attention on mating.

Nice find, RonTom. Thanks!

Lesser goldfinch are easy to find at our place. They’ve been on our thistle feeders for two months now. I count 9 or 10 even as I finish the last thread of this Montage.
