Staff Report on September 18, 2015
Bobcats beat Panthers 63-24

A 35-point first quarter set the tone for the Texas State Bobcats Saturday as they steamrolled past Prairie View A&M Panthers 63-24 in the home opener at Bobcat Stadium. Texas State’s offense provided the firepower, amassing 649 yards of total offense, 440 of those yards gained in the first half. Highlighting the high-scoring affair was a 95-yard punt return by Brandon McDowell, which tied the school record for longest punt return in a game. Quarterback Tyler Jones went 12 of 14 for 278 yards and three touchdowns passing. Eight Bobcats contributed to the 321 rushing yards, with Robert Lowe and Chris Nutall combining for 198 yards. While the game was a blowout, Prairie View A&M’s Marching Storm band wowed the crowd of 24,651 during halftime of the game. Texas State hosts Southern Mississipi Saturday at 6 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
