Staff Report on October 7, 2015
Lamar L. Angell (1942-2015)

Lamar L. Angell, 73, of Austin and Rockdale, Texas, left this world on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015.

He is survived by his devoted wife Jo Ann Angell, five children; Robert Scott, Cindy Lind and husband, Jack, Vanessa Proud, Scarlett Angell and Julie Taylor and husband, Curtis, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lamar was born in Marlin, Texas on May 12, 1942, to Lamar Craig Angell and Elizabeth Joy O’Bier Angell. Shortly thereafter, Lamar moved to Rockdale. He considered Rockdale his home and its impact would always have a place in his heart an d he would always have a great love for it. Lamar was a cement finisher/contractor for over 40 years; a career in which he exhibited the same energy, integrity and work ethic that he did in every aspect of his life. His work stands the test of time and many structures in Austin and throughout central Texas set on the foundations that he made. For many years he worked rodeos, land and cattle, never straying far from his love of the land and his country roots.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea and was both proud of his service and fond of the experiences he had and the people that he met.

A great storyteller; he relayed many adventures with passion and enthusiasm … his pride shining through in the details of each story.

Lamar was a loving and devoted husband. He and Jo Ann had a 46 year love affair that began in 1969.

Lamar will be remembered as a man of impeccable integrity with a gregarious and often mischievous personality. He believed in working hard, keeping your word and laughing often. The personal and professional foundations that he made throughout his life with a strong work ethic, charm, and a gregarious nature are the legacy that he leaves. He believed strongly in the right thing and never took the easy path. Truly unforgettable, he will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost.

It indeed made all the difference.

The family received friends on, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Lutton officiating. Interment followed at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
