Staff report
Buda citizens will have an opportunity to get an update from city staff and consultants on the progress of bond projects approved last November on Thursday, November 12.
The city will hold a bond progress meeting from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m in the Kunkel Room at Buda Elementary upper campus.
Projects to improve and expand parks and trails, drainage, streets, and construct a new city hall, library, and police station were approved by voters in November of 2014 in a bond package of five propositions totaling $54 million.
City leaders will offer an update on where the projects stand now, and also seek public input on how to better design the projects to suit local needs.
Of particular interest are context sensitive design concepts that could be used in the reconfiguration of the intersection of 967 and Main Street downtown and ways to preserve trees along the Main Street Corridor.
Project consultants will seek public guidance on these and other designs being developed with bond funds.
The city will also give an update on the progress of the new city hall, library, and police station. The city hall and library will be connected, sharing a common space to save money and give citizens better access to both facilities.
The new police station, one of the city’s most direly needed upgrades, will be a separate facility to ensure the safety of the public.
Both facilities will be situated at the lot located at Main Street and Loop Street, in front of Jardine’s Texas Foods. The City has already purchased the land and city-hired architects, Page Southerland Page, are in the process of designing the spaces.
Once built, they will allow the city to consolidate multiple offices into a single building and free up office space downtown.
Buda officials are hoping for a good turnout.
“We hope people will come and see the progress we’ve made and help continue to guide these projects,” Mayor Todd Ruge said in a statement. “We think they’ll be impressed, and I’m looking forward to hearing their thoughts on the projects and ideas on how we can make them better.”
Buda citizens looking to keep up with the bond projects, ask questions, or give city leaders their opinions on the future projects are encouraged to attend.
