Teen injured in possible drive-by shooting in Kyle

UPDATE – 11:02 p.m.

Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett confirmed the arrest of a 16-year-old male juvenile for murder in connection to Saturday’s drive-by shooting in Kyle.

The juvenile, who resides in Kyle, was booked into the Hays County Juvenile Detention Facility late Saturday night. He is charged with murder, which is a first-degree felony.

Police have not released a motive and are continuing their investigation. No additional details are available at this time. The juvenile’s name will not be released as he is a minor.

UPDATE – 7:35 p.m.

Kyle Police Department Chief Jeff Barnett has identified the victim as 18-year-old Natanaell Bardales, of Kyle, who was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m. Saturday at University Medical Center Brackenridge Hospital. Next of kin has been notified.

Barnett confirmed Saturday’s incident was a drive-by shooting. He said Kyle Police were given the names of possible suspects and they are “following up on those.” Kyle Police continue to investigate the shooting.

“Our investigators are following up on leads about the identity and location of the suspected shooter,” Barnett said in a statement. “We believe we have good information about his whereabouts.

Kyle resident Diego Rios, who was a friend of Bardales, said he, Bardales and three others were playing pool in a garage at a home in the 300 block of Discovery. Rios said neither he nor Bardales resided in the home, located in the Post Oak subdivision.

Rios said the group was about to leave the home to hang out with another friend when the shooting began.

“All of a sudden a car just pulled up right in front and just let some shots off and drove off,” Rios said.

According to a Kyle press release, a vehicle drove by slowly and fired several shots.

At least one shot hit Bardales, according to the release. Bardales was outside of the home at the time.

Officers on scene observed an injury to Bardelas’ head. He was transported by ambulance to Brackenridge Hospital.

UPDATE: This story has been amended to show the shooting happened at the 300 block of Discovery in the Post Oak subdivision

The Kyle Police Department is investigating a possible drive-by shooting that occurred in broad daylight in the Post Oak subdivision Saturday afternoon that left a teenager seriously injured.

According to Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett, the incident happened at 3:53 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Discovery. Barnett said one person, a teenage male, suffered injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Barnett said victim, who has not been identified, was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with what “appeared to be life threatening injuries.”

Barnett said the reported shooting may have occurred from a vehicle that drove by and “fired multiple rounds” at a home where a group of friends and family members were gathered outside.

Barnett said the department is making a determination on if the reported shooting was gang related.

Kyle Police have not released any identifying information on the vehicle at this time.

Kyle Police investigators are on scene. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Kyle Police at 512-268-3232.
