An hours long weather delay was just enough for the Lehman Lobos tennis team to rally and defeat the Hays Rebels 10-9 Oct. 9 at the 25-6A District Tournament.
But the Lobos’ 2018 team season came to a close the very next day when they were ousted by the eventual district champion Bowie Bulldogs 10-1 on Oct. 10.
With the victory, Lehman extends its win streak to six matches, which dates back to the 2015 season.

Lehman and Hays squared off during the first round of the district tournament, which was the teams’ second match against each other this season. Lehman entered the match with a five-match winning streak over the Rebels.
However, Hays leapt out to a 5-2 lead after doubles play. While the Lobos fought back during the start of singles play, Hays maintained a 6-4 lead.
And then the rains came. Weather forced a postponement of the match, which did not resume until midday Oct. 9.
Following the delay, the Lobos rallied back and went on a 5-3 run, tying the match at 9-9 heading into the final match of the day.
Lobo senior Nailea Udave held on to defeat her opponent and secure the one-point victory, which was the closest match the Lobos have had in four seasons.
Lehman head coach Diego De La Fuente said he could not be prouder of the effort his team put in.
With the victory, Lehman extends its win streak to six matches, which dates back to the 2015 season.
“It’s hard to beat the same team twice in the same season,” De La Fuente said.
