A possible cockfighting operation is under investigation by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, though no arrests have been made.
According to Lt. Dennis Gutierrez, deputies responded to an address off Rolling Hills in Buda about possible cruelty to animals and discovered evidence that led them to believe “cockfighting may have been occurring.”
The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the HCSO and on Nov. 19, a search warrant was executed at the property and 118 roosters and hens were confiscated. All the birds were taken to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, which has issued a call through social media for extra kennels, chicken feed and disposable trays or pans for feeding.
