Michael Collins Grizzle (1968-2022)

Michael Collins Grizzle, age 53, was born on July 12, 1968, at the old Seton Hospital in Austin, and he finished the race on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his home in Mountain City.

He attended Hays CISD schools from kindergarten through high school graduating with the 1986 class of Hays High School.  After attending Southwest Texas, now Texas State, he worked for 30 years with UPS in San Marcos and Kerrville.  Due to medical problems, he returned to Hays County in 2019.

Michael was always very athletic and participated in many sports beginning at an early age and continued athleticism throughout his life.  At the age of 40 he ran his first marathon. Of all places, the marathon was held in Marathon, Texas.  He crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 2:48:00.

When asked by the Marathon newspaper reporter, “what is your best time”-he said, “that was, this is my first marathon to run”.  Michael ran in the Boston Marathon in 2009 and 2010.  On November 7, 2010, he competed in the New York City Marathon, finishing with a time of 2:50:14.

Michael is survived by his parents, Butch and Sandra Grizzle of Mountain City, brother and sister-in-law, Randal and Sara Grizzle, nephews, Grant and Garison Grizzle of Buda.

Also survived by aunt and uncle, Shirley and Lloyd Schwartz of Austin, Sam and Phyllis Mashburn of Pottsboro, Texas; cousins, Shorty, Scott and Nelan Schwartz, Courtney Cooner and Mark Mashburn and their families. He was predeceased by grandparents, Starkey and Alma Rose Grizzle, Sam and Cody Mashburn and special aunt, Mary Leon Howard.

Celebration of Life will be Sunday, April 24th, from 2:00-5:00 at Ruby Ranch Lodge, 292 Bartlett Dr. W, Buda, TX  78610. Private Burial at Live Oak Cemetery. Casual Dress.
