John Taylor Keller (1982-2022)

John Taylor Keller

John Taylor Keller, 93, of Buda, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on September 02, 2022. John was born in Staunton, Virginia to Ernest and Virginia Keller on October 17, 1928.

John went to Surratsville High School in Clinton, Maryland and graduated in 1946.  He earned certifications from the London School of Business, Texas Peace Officers Academy and Texas Law Enforcement Management Institute.   

Mr. Keller proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1981, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  He went on to work for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department from 1981 to 1994, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.  

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching football and the car races, and traveling.  He received numerous military awards, including a Bronze Star and was proud of his involvement with the United Heritage Credit Union (Past Director and Chairman of the Board), Austin Retired Chief’s Society (Past President), American Legion (Post 83), Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 3377), Travis County Sheriff’s Officer Association (Past President), Sheriff’s Association of Texas, Texas Counties Law Enforcement Association and National Association for Uniformed Services

John is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, JoAnn Keller of Buda, Texas; sons Edwin Keller and wife, Annette, of Jonestown, Texas and John S. Keller and wife, Brenda of Orange, Virginia; son-in-law Mark Anderson; grandchildren Jennifer Anderson-Flores, and husband, Fernando, April Harris, John L. Keller, and wife Heather, Virginia Keller, Eric Bobbitt and Matthew Bobbitt; great-grandchildren Lauren, Reagan and Brooklynn Harris, Brendan Halsey, Isla and Max Flores and John K. Keller; sister Lillian Peters; and numerous extended family members and friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Virginia Keller; daughter, Vickie Keller Anderson; and brothers, Matthew, Malcolm and Frank Keller.

A celebration of life will be held at Harrell Funeral Home, 1715 Kirby, Kyle, TX 78640 on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00 am with Pastor Roy Ehrdal officiating. Burial will follow at Cook Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660. Visitation will be held at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas will be handling the funeral arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Onion Creek Senior Center, online at  HYPERLINK “https://www.ocscbuda.org/” https://www.ocscbuda.org/ or by mail to 420 Barton Crossing, Buda, TX 78610. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to American Medical Response (AMR), RedBud Home Care and Elara Caring Hospice for the compassion and excellent level of care that each provided.
