Wimberley ISD election results

WIMBERLEY — Incumbent Andrea Justus was re-elected to WISD Board of Trustees Place 1, overcoming challenger Benjamin Kiowski with a total of 4,455, or 53.16%, votes during the Nov. 5 election.

School finances and funding are the topics that Justus called the “most critical issue[s] facing WISD.” As the Place 1 WISD trustee, she promised to advocate on behalf of the district to end the Chapter 49 laws that she said are “not sustainable or fair.”

“I think the ability to listen and work effectively as a team with other school board members and the superintendent is critical,” she said, when asked about the most important skill of being a good school board member. “I also think that being available and willing to research and ask questions when presented with decisions is equally as important.”

Justus is married with six children and has lived in the Wimberley community for more than 24 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. She was originally elected to her position in November 2021.

Lindsey Deringer beat out incumbent Nathan Cross with 4,358, or 53.81%, votes for Place 2 on the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees.

Deringer, a wife and mother of three, has a background in elementary education and 10 years of teaching experience. Leading up to Election Day, she promised that she will use her experience as a teacher to “remind me that all students in the district deserve my consideration when voting on important issues that impact students and families.”

Deringer vowed to represent all constituents in WISD, not just the ones who voted for her, and emphasized how important it is as a trustee to listen.

“I will not just represent those who voted for me but will also include those who may not have,” she said. “I commit to listening to all sides of an issue before making a decision and casting my vote.”
