May Day! May Day! May Day!
In Dripping Springs, Texas, on May Day 2025, dozens of local citizens stood on the four corners of the intersection of RR 12 and Hwy 290 for over three hours, waving to the passing cars, holding our signs, and being greeted by overwhelmingly supportive thumbs up, friendly horn honks, plus the occasional raised middle finger or being ordered to, “Go back where you came from!” which to us native Texans, is pretty funny.
“We The People” are not amused, and we are not going to just silently watch our country be destroyed by Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Project 2025.
Your friends and neighbors have been coming out to protest at State Capitols, town halls and city centers almost every week since Trump took office, and began dismantling the U.S. government so he can pass along the “savings” in the form of tax breaks for himself, his family and their wealthy friends.
We are protesting, we are marching, we are voicing our concerns to our elected officials to let them know that we expect them to honor our Constitution, so that our government can better protect and serve the American people.
Throughout our history, people in this country have worked hard to fulfill the promises of our Declaration of Independence, and our Constitution, through the creation of laws, and interpretations of those laws by Courts and Legislatures.
Trump is openly defying those Courts, a clear violation of his Oath of Office and the principle of separation of powers plainly laid out in the Constitution. Trump wants to radically alter what it means to be an American, and what Americans can expect of their government.
These people tearing down a century’s worth of social progress, want to nullify laws that help level the playing field to social mobility, and turn their back on environmental protection. They want to de-fund our nation’s social safety net, those vital programs we all depend upon to help cushion us from poverty when we can no longer work, and provide affordable medical care to those who cannot pay to access it on their own.
Social Security and Medicare, programs every family accesses at some point in their lives, are being targeted as “waste, fraud and abuse” by billionaires who never had to worry about not having enough money to pay the rent, buy food, gas or pay medical bills.
We The People still believe in an America where there is equal opportunity for all, where men and woman, gay and straight, black, brown or white are all Americans, and all worthy of being served, not dictated to, by our elected officials.
So, friends and neighbors, look for us on America’s streets with our signs, and join us as we let the Trump administration know we are not going back, and we are not amused.
