Donald Wayne Krhovjak, 74, of Kyle, Texas passed away on March 14, 2022, in Winter Park, Colorado.

Donnie was born on December 3, 1947, to Ladik Krhovjak and Elsie Ohnheiser Krhovjak in Hallettsville, Texas.

Donnie was raised in Glidden, Texas and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Columbus High School where he graduated in 1966. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in January 1972 with a BBA in Personnel Management. Donnie was employed by Chevron Oil in Houston for 37 years in human resources before retiring in 2009.

Donnie spent his retirement years living close to his oldest son’s family in Kyle, Texas and his youngest son’s family in South Austin—always involved in family gatherings; his sons’, daughters-in-law’s, and grandsons’ activities; following and attending sports events (as a Texas Ex alumni, he was a serious Texas Longhorn fan!), and living a wonderful retirement life. He was called “Goombah” by his grandsons and spent a lot of time with them—enjoying birthday parties, holiday celebrations, school activities, eating out, and having them over to his home. While Kevin and Chris were growing up, they traveled extensively with their Dad on his vacation breaks—to many, many states and sites. When the grandsons came along, he also took them on trips to enjoy and learn from traveling. Most of the trips included the “other brothers”—Quintin and Anthony Guajardo, neighbors who grew up with Cooper and accompanied the Krhovjaks on vacations. Donnie was the fun grandfather!

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ladik and Elsie Krhovjak, and his sister Shirley Krhovjak Alleyn. He is survived by his sons Kevin Krhovjak (Cheryl) and Chris Krhovjak (Rachel); grandsons Alex Krhovjak, Cooper Krhovjak, Maddoxx Krhovjak, and Cody Pate; brother-in-law Mike Alleyn, foster sister Susan Patino (Hernan); and three nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services are to be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 2:00 PM (visitation from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM) at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas with John Glueck officiating. Interment to follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Alex Krhovjak, Cooper Krhovjak, Maddoxx Krhovjak, Cody Pate, Blake Alleyn, Brent Alleyn, Hal Kunz, and Quentin Guajardo. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Alleyn, Darrell Rau, Leslie Berger, Hank Novosad, Gary Stavinoha, Bub Crawford, and Curtiss Schonenberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, [email protected].
