Hervol honored, Mitchell sworn in

By Bailey Buckingham

As recently elected council member Travis Mitchell officially assumed his District 1 seat at Tuesday’s Kyle City Council meeting, Mayor Todd Webster presented Diane Hervol with a plaque for her many years of city service.

City Hall was filled with Kyle residents who lent their support and gratitude to Diane Hervol, former city councilwoman, who received recognition for her time spent as a Kyle City Council member.

“Diane, in my view, has served in an exemplary manner,” Webster said. “No one has ever prepared or worked as hard.”

Daphne Tenorio, District 3 council member, said she knows Hervol would not want a lot of comment made on her behalf because she is a humble person. Tenorio said she is thankful for the dedication Hervol has had for Kyle throughout the years.

“Diane is a wonderful, serving citizen for all of us,” Tenorio said. “I’m going to sum it up in two words – ‘thank you.’”

With teary eyes and a shaky voice, Hervol addressed the residents of Kyle and thanked them for the opportunity to serve them over the years.

“Politics is a rough trade, but, loyalty, trust, respect does exist and I believe I have given that,” Hervol said. “And I believe I have received that from my supporters.”

Hervol said she was very proud of the many things the council accomplished during her years of service.

The new library, the construction of five roads, park improvements, the purchase of the wastewater treatment plant, and the train depot restoration were some of the accomplishments she mentioned.

“I’d like to wish the current council the best of luck and thank you,” Hervol said.
