During the public forum portion of Monday’s Hays CISD Board of Trustee’s meeting, Carla Perez spoke on behalf of the district’s employees to advocate for a three percent salary increase.
Perez, a bilingual teacher within Hays CISD for 15 years and president of Hays Educator association, spoke to the board about the proposed salary increase for the upcoming school year.
The increase recommendations would apply to all full-time or part-time employees who occupy a permanent position, including all enterprise positions.
Increase recommendations will not apply to non-standard employees.
Accompanying Perez at the meeting were approximately 15 fellow advocates of the proposal. The advocates were wearing matching shirts that said, “We are public education!” The advocates were also holding signs that read, “Yes to 3% raise.”
“Some of us have come to urge the board to look at the three percent recommendation for a salary increase for all employees,” Perez said.
Perez asked the board to consider the three percent increase, as well as an adjustment for employee’s insurance benefits.
“I know we as employees want to make this a better place to work,” Perez said. “When we’re happy, this makes the students happy. We look forward to the continued great progress we’ve made with salaries for Hays CISD.”
Perez was met with applause from her fellow salary increase advocates as she headed back to her seat.
Chief Human Resource Officer Elaine Howard presented the salary increase plan to the board later on in the meeting.
The Board of Trustees will vote on the proposal at its June 27 meeting.
