Kyle Council calls emergency meeting for wastewater spill

Staff report

The Kyle City Council is holding an emergency meeting at 5 p.m. this afternoon regarding a wastewater spill.

According to a press release, the spill happened at one of the city's lift stations, with the spill happening on city owned property. City crews are in the diagnostic phase of the spill. The Kyle council will discuss and could possibly take action on funding for clean up of the site.

The overflow, according to the release, appears to have entered the Bunton Branch. Jason Biemer, Kyle Division Manager - Treatment Opeartions, said there is no need for a boil water notice to be issued as the location of the spill is not connected to the city's water system. No other information at this time.

Kyle notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regarding the spill. According to TCEQ rules, a public notice is issued in sewage spills in excess of 100,000 gallons. The exact extent of the spill is unknown at this time.
