The Hays Rebels football team opened district play Friday against the powerhouse Lake Travis Cavaliers at Bob Shelton Stadium.
While the Rebels fought all game, it wasn’t enough to overcome the powerful Lake Travis offense as Hays fell 50-14.
The Cavs were in control from the start of the game, as they scored touchdowns on their first five offensive possession. Quarterback Charlie Brewer threw for one score and ran for two touchdowns in the first half.
While the game was never really close, the Rebels highlighted their evening with two 60-plus yard touchdown passes.
In the second quarter, Gentry Brawith connected on a screen pass with Marquis Howard, who took it 65 yards for a touchdown and was aided by strong down field blocking.
The Rebels tried out three different quarterbacks throughout the game, but it was the running back duo that did most of the work for Hays' offense.
Cade Powell and Thailand Mayberry ate up chunks of yards throughout the night, with Lake Travis struggling to stopping the run.
With the game almost over, the third Rebels quarterback of the game, Tyler Conley, connected with Tyrone Meredith for a 76-yard touchdown pass for the game’s final score.
