An enlargement of the heart was determined as the cause of Hays High alumnus and Texas State football player Will Trevillion's death, this according to Hays County Precinct No. 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Beth Smith.
Smith Thursday received the final autopsy results on Trevilion from the medical examiner's office. She determined sudden hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or an enlargement of the heart, was the cause of death and the manner of his death was natural. Her opinon was based on autopsy findings, case history and investigative information.
Trevillion, 20, collapsed at his home in Kyle on Jan. 6. Trevillion was transported to the hospital, Smith said in an email, and all possible resuscitation efforts were attempted, but were unsuccessful.
Smith said in her email individuals with enlarged hearts are "at increased risk for sudden cardiac death" including arrythmias, or improper beating of the heart, and acute Myocardial infarctions, or heart attacks.
"His death was immediate and I can safely say he did not suffer," Smith said in an email. "My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
