Two Hays High students were arrested Thursday for making a false alarm or report after they joked about bringing a gun to campus.
According to a letter to parents from Hays High principal David Pierce, the students, who have not been identified, were arrested by the Hays County Sheriff's Office after their investigation into a possible threat to the campus. According to the letter, the HCSO determined there was no credibility to the threat or danger to students or staff members.
"Campus safety is not a joking matter," Pierce said in his letter. "School officials in partnership with law enforcement take these matters seriously and react quickly."
Pierce said there is "no danger to our campus and we will conduct school on a normal schedule tomorrow (Friday."

Dear Hays High School Parents,
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has conducted an investigation into a possible threat to the campus and determined that there is no credibility to the threat or danger to students or staff members. Late today, two students were charged with making a false alarm or report for joking about bringing a gun to school. Campus safety is not a joking matter. School officials in partnership with law enforcement take these matters seriously and react quickly.
Thank you for your patience in waiting for information from us while law enforcement conducted necessary interviews and examination of the situation.
Let me emphasize that there is no danger to our campus and we will conduct school on a normal schedule tomorrow. I appreciate your support for our campus and for being valued partners in keeping the campus safe. Safety is always our top priority.
