After a scoreless first half of play against visiting Alamo Heights on Feb. 1, Dripping Springs’ Taliyah Spain put in a pair of goals, within a four-minute span; about seven minutes into the second half for a 2-0 win. Hannah Simpson, the Alamo Heights goalkeeper, blocked a dozen or more shots on goal in the first half of play. “Alamo Heights goalie was really, really spectacular,” said Lady Tigers Head Coach Bailee Perrine after the game. “Our shots had to be really good to score on this goalie tonight.”
The Lady Tigers were shut out in the first half only one other time this season on Jan. 11 by Lake Travis but finished with a 1-0 win. “I think tonight we tried to force some balls, which we don’t normally do. At half time this team usually talks to each other, gets their game plan and executes pretty well in the second half,” Perrine said. “I just told them to keep playing their game, be calm, not to get frustrated and play as a team.”
The Lady Tigers are 9-0 overall and 4-0 in 5A District 26, and have outscored opponents 37-3 with 7 shutouts. Perrine and the Lady Tigers won the 2020-2021 5A State Championship with a 1-0 win over Friendswood in the semi-final and a 2-1 win over Frisco Wakeland in the Final.
Dripping Springs upcoming home games are Tuesday, Feb. 15 vs. Tivy and Friday, Feb. 18 vs. Johnson. Varsity games are at 7:15 at Tiger Stadium.
Right, Alamo Heights’ Katie Detmer turns away as Lady Tigers’ Taliyah Spain’s shot on goal goes whizzing past. Spain, a junior, put in a pair of goals within a four-minute span, about seven minutes into the second half for a 2-0 win. The Lady Tigers season record is 9-0 and 4-0 in 5A District 26.
