A loss to the Bowie Bulldogs Friday at Lobo Field places the Lehman Lady Lobos soccer team’s hopes for a playoff berth in jeopardy.
Three goals from Bowie were too much for Lehman in a 3-0 loss; one of the Bowie goals came from a penalty kick.
Lehman’s offense seemed disorganized and rushed when compared to the Lady Bulldog offense. For every five Lady Bulldog attempts on goal, the Lady Lobos only managed one.
The Lady Lobos struggled with missed passes and an almost porous midfield.
The Bulldogs scored their first goal with 11:25 left in the first half.
Lehman tried to respond, but were not able to put together a cohesive attack on the Bulldog goal.
The most aggressive play from the Lobos in the first half came from Alexis Sanchez. Lehman’s senior midfielder attempted to score with a booming kick from more than 20 yards out.
However, Bowie led Lehman 1-0.
Bowie managed three fast attacks on the Lobo goal within the first five minutes of the second half. Lobo goalkeeper Maya Erwin was able to stop all of those kicks with relative ease.
But a Lobo player committed a foul inside the box, giving Bowie a penalty kick.
Bowie capitalized and scored its second goal of the game with 33:44 left in the second half.
The Bulldogs scored again as a result of a botched Lobo defensive play with 28:48 left in the match to take a 3-0 lead.
Both teams battled out in the midfield, but the Bulldogs were more organized and aggressive and would usually come out with the ball and on the attack.
During the second half, the Lady Lobos would not manage to make a kick on the Bowie goal until the 11:50 mark.
After the game, Lobo Head Coach Nauri Garcia said the Lobos were outplayed and out coached by a very tough opponent.
Depending on the results of other district games, a playoff berth for the Lady Lobos is possible but it is very unlikely at this point in the season. Had the Lady Lobos won, they would have been in a much better position.
The Lady Lobos are 4-4-1 in district and 7-5-1 overall.
