Attempted sexual assault suspect on the loose

By Andy Sevilla

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say attempted to sexually assault a woman at the University Heights II apartments in San Marcos earlier this month.

San Marcos police officials said officers responded to the University Heights II apartments at 1101 E. River Ridge Parkway on Feb. 6 in reference to reports of an attempted sexual assault.

The victim told investigators she was walking to her residence at the apartment complex when an unknown man allegedly attacked her outside of her apartment, police said in a statement. The male suspect allegedly grabbed the victim, pushed her up against the wall and tried to pull her pants down with one hand while forcefully touching her with the other hand.

Police say the victim was able to scream and pull away from the suspect. The unidentified man, described to be in his 20s, then ran away from the scene, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot 10-inches to 6-feet in height, with an average build. Police say the man had a slim face, and dirty blonde hair, which was short on the sides and longer on top. He is also said to have been wearing all black clothing.

Presently police have no leads in the case as none have surfaced from the investigation, according to Trey Hatt, San Marcos public information officer.

“In this instance, any information from the public will most likely be our only lead,” Hatt said Monday.

Officials are not saying whether the victim was a Texas State University student, but did say she is in her 20s.

Officials are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the alleged attempted sexual assault to contact the San Marcos Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (512) 753-2300.

Anyone who finds themselves under similar circumstances are advised to do the same things as the victim in this case did: go to a safe place and contact police, Hatt said.
