Hays CISD launches first student engagement survey

Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is asking all secondary students to participate in the district’s first student engagement survey Feb. 17 – 27, to share their experiences with classroom, campus, and district activities. The district will use this data to develop strategies that improve teaching and learning opportunities.

Last year, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees requested an annual survey to gather student feedback as part of the district’s expanded stakeholder engagement program. The district already surveys parents, community members, and staff to obtain feedback on district services and needed improvements.

K12 Insight is administering the online survey, as well as collecting and analyzing the results. Individual responses are confidential and anonymous to school and district staff.  K12 Insight will provide district leadership a summary report with the key findings and data.

The final report will be presented to the Board in May. Results will be posted online.

“This is an important opportunity for students to shape the academic and social climate of their schools,” Superintendent Michael McKie said. “I look forward to working with every teacher, staff member, parent, learner and community member to create a 21st century district culture that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of students and their families.”

Financial aid events to help seniors

Two more financial aid events will be offered this month for seniors and their parents to help students apply for either the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or TASFA (Texas Application for Student Financial Aid).

All seniors can apply for financial aid through the FAFSA. Seniors who do not qualify for a social security number apply through the TASFA.

Seniors and their parents can attend either event, regardless of the high school the students attend:

February 21 at Lehman High School Library, 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

February 24 at Lehman High School Library 6-8 p.m.

Bring any current IRS or wage statements to help with the application. For more information, contact your high school counseling department.
