Family Fun Ride and Bike Rodeo
On Saturday, April 11 at Gregg-Clarke Park, Kyle Parks and Rec will host its eighth annual Family Fun Ride and Bike Rodeo. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Events beign at 9 a.m. Enjoy a bicycle safety presentation and a pre-determined group bike ride through downtown Kyle.
Kyle Market Days
On April 11, Kyle Market Days will feature a chicken fajita backyard cook-off. The theme for this month’s Market Days is “Backyard Fun.” Market Days are held on the second Saturday of the month from April to September at the Historic City Square Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come on out for products from local vendors, arts & crafts, farm to market items, live music and more.
Art Squared Art Market
From 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on April 11, local artists will have a market on the Hays County Historic Courthouse lawn. Spend some time with live music and local wares. The event occurs the second Saturday of the month.
Run for the Kids
The King’s Academy and 18Ten ministries hosts their inaugural 10K / 5K race and 1 mile fun run in Belterra on April 11. There will also be bounce houses, face painters, music, food and more. For additional information visit runforthekidsrace.com.
2nd Annual Texas Wild Rice Festival
The 2nd annual Texas Wild Rice Festival will be April 11 at Sewell Park in San Marcos. Celebrate the river with music, art, science, food, local vendors and plenty of free hands-on workshops. The headwaters of the San Marcos is home to eight endangered species, four of which are endemic to San Marcos - including the Texas Wild Rice! One of the main purposes of this festival is to spread this knowledge and educate all who attend. The award-winning film “Yakona,” the story of the San Marcos River, will screen for FREE after sunset with a live score performance by Justin Sherburn. This festival is free and funded by community support.
“Youth, Strength, and Energy”
The Starlight Symphony Orchestra presents “Experience Musical Inspirations through Emotions - Youth, Strength, and Energy.” They will feature two winners from their Young Artists Competition held in the fall of 2014. The concerts are Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 15951 Winters Mill Parkway, Wimberley; and Sunday, April 12, at 4 p.m. at the Dripping Springs High School, 940 Highway 290, Dripping Springs,. These two winners, Sydney Neugebauer and Vanessa Turner, represent the finest of young musicians in Central Texas and are sure to provide a youthful, energetic, and musically strong evening for concert goers.
Learn at the nursery
This Sunday, April 12, It’s About Thyme nursery (11726 Manchaca Rd.) will host two free informational sessions. At 1 p.m. master gardener Amanda Moon will present “All About Roses. ” Learn how to pick out the best rose bush for your garden, and how to take care of it. At 2 p.m. Marge Wood will be signing and reading from her new children’s book “The Secret Buzzard Society.”
Cowtown Sip, Stroll & Art Walk
The fourth annual ”Lockhart’s Cowtown Sip, Stroll and Art Walk” kicks off this Saturday. Stroll into two-dozen businesses around the square for wine and beer tastings while shopping new spring wares. The Chuckwagon Corral in Main Street will feature complimentary “vittles” supplied by area restaurants. Enjoy continuous live music and visit the 17-plus area artists who will exhibit and sell their works. All proceeds will benefit the City of Lockhart “Downtown Revitalization” efforts. Takes place from 4-7:30 p.m. April 11 around the downtown historic square.
