Live Oak tour shows school as a viable educational alternative

Submitted Report

More than 50 individuals toured Live Oak Academy Friday as part of the Texas Association of Alternative Education (TAAE), a statewide association for the teacher professionals involved in alternative education.

Alternative education in public schools, charter schools, schools of choice, juvenile justice, disciplinary settings and school within a school strive to keep and graduate Texas students who are not in mainstream teaching facilities.

Texas alternative teachers are advocates for the students in need and targeted by Texas Education Agency as candidates for “No Child Left Behind” concerns.

Principal Michael Watson presented how the school successfully educates students in a self-paced environment utilizing a blended instructional approach. Students complete work using an online platform facilitated by teachers to meet each student’s individual needs.

After the presentation, the attendees were broken up in to small groups and led on a tour through the building by Live Oak students.
