Kyle City Attorney resigns

By Andy Sevilla

Just over a year after being appointed to the Kyle city attorney position, Ken Johnson tendered his resignation Tuesday night and the council unanimously accepted the renunciation.

After a three-hour executive session, Kyle Mayor Todd Webster moved to accept Johnson’s resignation in open session and the council voted 6-0 to approve the departure just before midnight Tuesday.

Council members did not discuss the matter during open session, and officials declined to offer details behind the resignation, citing personnel matters.

“I am appreciative of the efforts he provided and the work he had done,” council member Diane Hervol told the Hays Free Press of Johnson. “I wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Johnson joined the city in February 2014, and advised the city council and city administration on legal matters. He was responsible for drafting legal opinions, contracts, ordinances and other legal documents, and served as the city’s prosecutor in the Kyle Municipal Court.

Johnson was the city’s second in-house full time city attorney.
