PEC board president resigns

Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) board president Patrick Cox will leave the organization effective June 20, according to a written statement on Monday. He has served since 2008 as a reform director.

“I take great pride in the many achievements we have accomplished to make PEC a recognized national leader among electric cooperatives for governance, financial stability, innovation, and a diversified energy portfolio that includes renewable energy and efficiency,” the statement said in part. “With that, we are providing excellent services for our members as we strive to always improve our reliability and resiliency.”

Cox added that he has confidence that PEC has a solid future of core values.

“Faster, better, and smarter – that’s the PEC of today and tomorrow,” he wrote.

Unacceptably unaccepted

The initial excitement over receiving a college acceptance letter may have quickly dissipated for about 800 prospective Texas State University students. A university spokesperson confirmed Monday that a third-party mailing service made a mistake when it sent out acceptance brochures. It is unclear at this time how many students who got a brochure are not among the list of accepted students.

County Clerk’s Office extends hours

The Hays County Clerk’s Office at the Hays County Government Center in San Marcos is now open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays to serve residents who need any of the services handled by the Clerk’s Office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on other weekdays.

“We wanted to make it more convenient for people who typically work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to use our services,” Hays County Clerk Liz Gonzalez said. “As our county has grown, we’ve tried to implement services that will make it easier for residents to do business with us.”

Last year the clerk unveiled its first office outside of the county seat. The substation is located at the Precinct 2 building in Kyle and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number at that location is 512-393-7330. All services are available in Kyle except plat map printing and issuance of writs, and the Kyle office only accepts credit and debit cards for payment.

The main office at the Government Center is at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos. The phone number at the main office is 512-393-7738. For more information about county clerk services, visit www.co.hays.tx.us and choose County Clerk from the Offices dropdown.
