Hays CISD water resolution approved
The Hays CISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution in March supporting legislation to establish the proper, local regulation of commercial and non-exempt groundwater production in aquifer areas currently outside of the respective groundwater conservation districts in Hays County, Texas.
Hays CISD retirement
Ann Conlee, principal at Kyle Elementary School, announced she will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Third high school discussion postponed
Because of time constraints during the March meetings, the board chose to postpone until next month the discussion about selecting the location of a third high school. The district’s long-range plan includes asking voters in 2017 to consider a bond for a third high school. If that school will open for the 2019-2020 school year, the district will need to select a location for the school sometime this calendar year. The board will discuss the best way to engage the community in the location selection for high school #3 at a meeting in April.
District considers in-house after-school care program
The administration began discussions with the board about creating a Hays CISD operated after-school care program. Many district students attend after-school care programs on their home campuses. This allows them safe places to be between the time school ends and when their parents can pick them up. The district is considering creating what is called a “third generation” of after-school care, which incorporates curriculum into the extended-day program, allowing students to maximize learning. The program could also be a significant revenue generator for the district. Currently, parents pay third-parties who run after-school care programs at Hays CISD campuses and the district does not receive any of the income. The discussion of creating a district operated after-school care program will continue at future board meetings.
