Carpenter Hill Elementary School’s library brought out “The Force” – literally – with a memorable running of its inaugural Star Wars Reads Day last week. The cafeteria was packed with students in Star Wars attire treating their families to multiple tables full of activities like Chewbacca Card, and Death Star Crayon Resist. Not lost in the occasion was that darkest of all characters, the Empire’s Darth Vader, who stood with a Storm Trooper for photos with participating students, at least those brave enough to approach. The entire exercise, set up by Colt librarian Charlotte Massey, librarian tech Patti Pulis, and a host of volunteers, tied in with what has become a global event, describing itself as “a celebration of a galaxy far, far away and the joy of reading.” A special area of the festival offered students a wide range of books designed to enhance the day's experience and strengthen their skills.
