With team names such as the Dragon Slayers, FrisBeasts and Vicious and Delicious, participants in the second annual Hays High Ultimate Frisbee tournament on June 2 meant business when they took over the back practice fields. The tournament, organized by the Hays High School Ultimate Frisbee Club and teacher Billy Norton, featured roughly 13 teams, with donations from the tournament going to help Hays County flood relief victims. Prior to the tournament, participants took to social media to announce their commitment, or de-commitment, with certain teams. Once on the field, players showed their athletic and mental prowess in a high-energy exhibition that combined the physicality of football, the speed of soccer and the dexterity of lacrosse. Joining the players were Hays CISD teachers who also showcased their skills, including Chris Gardner and Norton himself. Ultimately the Dragon Slayers claimed the tournament title by virtue of a 7-6 win in the championship match. (Photo by Moses Leos III)
