No way to ILA

Our houseguest, Priscilla, posted on FaceBook a photo that illustrates a glimpse of Mountain City nature, exactly what Montage frequently chats.

“Where I am I can see baby deer drinking at fountain while I’m sitting at table. That’s so cool. That same little fat bird comes every morning and sits there all day. Always flying into the window. lol”

Yes, Mr. Cowbird stays on and on here at our place in this little city still barely out in the country … but, it still has that “rural feel” that Mountain Cityians treasure. Overwhelmingly, that’s what we told our city government we value. That’s what the survey said loud and clear.

Priscilla’s photo of leashed KissMe leading the way up Live Oak Drive while strollered Emma (10 months) reaches out to him tells more than one story. For one, KissMe is alive and well after his Memorial Day weekend rattlesnake bite.

Two, it shows our rough chunky “chip seal” pavement. You definitely don’t want to fall without knee pads.

As much as many of us dislike the road texture, how infinitely much more do we dislike the Interlocal Agreement (ILA) before the City Council that includes some provisions for help with providing labor and equipment for the exact same road surface at a later date IF Mountain City will surrender a massive chunk of ETJ west of Mountain City to Kyle so that the proposed Anthem subdivision can have Kyle water and sewer.

June 15th’s county-sponsored Town Hall with Mountain City and Kyle will be covered elsewhere in this issue. At the last council meeting, the Mountain City City Council set Monday, June 22nd, 7 p.m. as the moment in time that Mountain City will discuss and take possible action on the ILA. Much could change between now and then. Kyle has a council meeting on June 16th, which should also be covered in this issue.

Alderman Lee Taylor indicated a desire to move on to other business.

Over the weekend, Mountain Citians moved junk from their homes and yards to the tune of eight dumpster loads full.

What a great idea the city initiated a year ago. Usually one week after the Mountain City Garage Sales (which “just happen” the 1st Saturday in June), the City has “dumpster days,” investing tax dollars in city clean-up, to keep the city neat and tidy.

Through the years, Dumpster Days has evolved in “rules” to allow one person’s junk to become another person’s treasure.

Through recent years, the Fourth of July Parade and Lawnmower Races have become a tradition. Read next week to obtain details. Or, keep watch on Facebook page of Loving MountainCity.

Keep watch on the Facebook page for Mountain City TX for official communications. For instance, Mayor Tiffany posted there an “Alert! Dumpsters are FULL” at 3:42 p.m.  No more junk. With eight dumpsters filled, Dumpster Days closed early.

It’s never too early to send a tidbit. Email [email protected] (subject “TIDBIT”) or leave a message at 512-268-5678. Thanks! Love, Pauline
