Help the district decide: School zones, school name, school location, and academic calendar
We have some exciting opportunities to participate in several important upcoming decisions. The School Board will impanel advisory committees in the coming weeks to address: rezoning for middle school #6 and possibly some elementary schools, naming middle school #6, selecting the location for a new high school, and selecting the 2016-2018 school calendars. The Board may also choose to nominate candidates to serve on the Hays Central Appraisal District and the Caldwell County Appraisal District.
If you are interested in being considered for selection to a district-level advisory committee or being nominated for an appraisal district seat, please let us know by completing a short questionnaire before noon on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at: www.hayscisd.net/committees
Rebs’ Manning presents at national conference
Hays High School Geography teacher Robin Manning presented a paper on a subject near and dear to those of us in Central Texas – water – at this summer’s National Council for Geography Education in Washington, D.C. Manning maintains an active educator’s profile, being highlighted by her co-workers for extending her expertise and “bringing it back to enrich her course and benefit her students.” Recently, she served as a contributing editor for the McGraw-Hill textbook the district adopted this year.
Year Two of DYOD
After a successful first year of implementation, Hays CISD hopes to see more growth in technology integration via the Drive Your Own Device (DYOD) initiative this year. DYOD allows students to use their own technology as a tool in their education.
The district recently implemented technology infrastructure improvements to allow K-12 students to better access a district-operated, filtered wireless network through their personal telecommunication devices for the new school year. The voter approved 2014 bond allows student a greater access to the filtered wireless network. The 2014 bond will continue to be implemented in the 2015-2016 school year as well, as shared carts of devices meant to supplement the DYOD initiative, and thus assure greater access, are being deployed to every campus across the district this semester.
Hays CISD students will be allowed to bring and use their personal technology devices to access electronic materials and relevant digital tools for learning purposes. All students will participate in digital citizenship instruction at the beginning of the school year.
