The Lake Travis Lady Cavaliers brought their ‘A’ game to the Lobo Den Tuesday night as they defeated the Lehman Lady Lobos in straight sets, 25-18, 10-25 and 25-10.
Lehman kept the first set competitive, managing to score a few rallies after falling to a 10-4 start. Sophomore Hannah Starnes held service for five straight points, bringing the score to 14-11. Once Starnes’ service ended, Lake Travis senior Jennifer Doyna responded with six of her own service points and widened the lead to nine. From there, the two teams traded serves with Lehman scrapping to make up for the deficit. Lehman’s Twyla Garcia contributed with a couple of service points but the gap couldn’t be closed and Lake Travis held on 25-18.
The Lady Cavaliers responded to Lehman’s determination at the end of the first set; they did so by scoring ten consecutive points to begin set two.. Lake Travis’ Maya Werner was responsible for the serves during that scoring span.
Down 10-1, Lehman struggled to maintain service for the rest of the second set. Lake Travis’ Doyna and Cook, however, held court and scored multiple points while serving. Lake Travis scored the final point of the set via a languid Lobo serve into the net.
The serving didn’t improve for Lehman in the third set and it dramatically decreased in quality for Lake Travis. Both squads went straight down the serve order, trading points until Lehman had a 7-6 lead. The Lady Cavs then scored three points in a row, followed by a Lehman point. Lehman gave up the next point, giving Lake Travis a 10-8 advantage. Lake Travis woke up from their nap and scored the next nine points sequentially. From there, the Lobos toiled on, but couldn’t catch up.
The Lady Lobos have two non-district away games to shake the rust off before restarting district play. Lehman hosts the Bowie Lady Bulldogs at the to the Lobo Den on Sept. 11.
